Astrid photographing manipuri horses on the river banks in Assam, India, December 2010
International horse photographer Astrid Harrisson combines her passion for all things equine with a sensitive and perceptive approach to her photography. Following a successful career in the world of art and design – an experience in itself that has inspired Astrid to approach her subject matter in a unique and artistic manner – Astrid’s love of horses led her to specialise in creating images of them.
Astrid has travelled extensively to all corners of the earth photographing horses within their individual cultural niches, bringing enormous empathy for these cultures to her work. From the foothills of the Andes to the plains of America’s Wild West, the remote mountains of Mongolia and unspoilt deserts of India, Astrid traverses the globe in a bid to experience and understand more about horses and the magnificent territories where they subsist. Astrid shares her discoveries through her sensitive photographic portrayals, some of which can be found in her recently published book The Majesty of the Horse, a unique collaboration with renowned British author Tamsin Pickeral.
Astrid focuses on producing large format pieces of art, which can be seen in situ at various group exhibitions and events, and she prints limited edition runs of her work and sells privately around the world. Astrid is currently represented in Dubai and the UK, and it is inevitable that her work will be available to view in other far-flung locations in due course.
